Walter Kirn, who has taken over Andrew Sullivan's blog for the week, has an interesting idea about discourse in America--we should stop talking about politics and start talking about ourselves, the things we do, the things we actually know. I agree. Too often we breeze through the "Hi, how are you? What are you up to?" and settle into the nitty gritty topics--politics, religion, economics, etc.

Could this be because we're too afraid to open up to people and let them in to our lives?

I wonder.
